Canon Character Information
Appearance: Johanna is of medium height with a smaller build than average and appears weaker than she actually is. She uses this to advantage when necessary, though these days she relies more on her abrasive personality that's not readily apparent from a glance at her slight frame. She has wide-set brown eyes and at the moment a shaved head since the Capitol shaved it during her captivity.

Johanna doesn't take much care about her appearance, make up and elaborate hair-dos don't interest her in the slightest as those remind her too much of the crazy Capitol fashions. While she does admire fashion from time to time, she'd much rather wear comfortable loose clothing nowadays.

History Johanna Mason at the Hunger Games Wikia

Johanna's a secondary character so they don't really go into her past other than talking some about her game. So here's some of my headcanon to fill in some spaces.
  • She comes from a family of lumberjacks, which isn't surprising given that she's from District 7 and their main trade's lumber. She grew up learning the use of an ax and the ins and outs of the lumber industry, as well as woodcraft, survival skills and a familiarity with the forest.
  • She had a mom, dad, older brother and younger sister.
  • Her family were all killed when Johanna refused to prostitute for the Capitol (the way Finnick was and even after Finnick tried warning her) after her games. An unlucky logging accident killed her family.
  • She was tortured by the Capitol, but couldn't tell them anything outside of what they knew already. She'd been told what she needed to know for her to carry out her part of the plan of rescuing Katniss. So she was pretty much tortured for nothing, not that she thinks the Capitol would have cared if they knew.

Personality: Most people would describe Johanna Mason as a snarky, sarcastic bitch, which for the most part is true. She's incredibly blunt and brash and isn't afraid to speak her mind, no matter what the consequences might be. This is really shown during the Quarter Quell when she throws her head back and shouts, 'Whole country in rebellion? Wouldn't want anything like that!' No one ever said anything like that where Snow or others might hear. But knowing that she might die in the arena, Johanna just can't be bothered to give two fucks about that. She also shows this when she undresses in front of Katniss, Haymitch and Peeta. She does what she wants, when she wants.

She has a lot of anger problems and a lot of problems trusting and letting people into her life. Anger actually seems fuels her. We see a lot her anger during the tribute interviews. When the others are crying and making seriously veiled comments hinting at their displeasure of having to return to the Games, Johanna was the only one who said exactly what she thought about the whole thing. She made sure that the country knew how unfair it was that she was having to go back to the arena. She'd played by the Capitol rules, she'd done everything she was suppose to and there the Capitol was, trying to kill her all over again. They (Snow) screwed her over and she makes sure everyone knows that obedience just isn't good enough anymore.

Like all Victors, Johanna is damaged and because of this, Johanna's hard to get to know. People only get to know what she wants them to, but given all she's been through, it's really understandable. She doesn't really care about impressing people, she also doesn't care about how people see her. Anyone she would have cared to impress died or were killed long ago and so she makes sure she keeps her walls up and only lets people see the parts of her that she wants, exception namely being Finnick. For some reason, she has allowed him closer to her than many. But she seems to prefer keeping people at a distance. The less people she has close to her, the less people the Capitol can use to try and make her do what they want. So she keeps people out by being brash and abrasive and sarcastic and for the most part this works. It worked well enough with Katniss, in fact Katniss was pretty sure Johanna had tried to kill her during the Quarter Quell, which obviously wasn't true but Johanna had been rude and unlikable enough that Katniss thought that. She's like this because Snow killed her

If for some reason someone manages to get through her wall, they've pretty much made an ally for life. Johanna will never be the type of friend someone comes to if they want a hug or kind words but if they want a dose of reality, she's the one to go to. She's not one to sugar coat anything, like when she tells Katniss that she was hard to swallow because of her tacky romantic drama, her defender of the helpless act which really isn't one, which makes her that much more unbearable.

She'd never openly admit it but she's not always just out for herself. Most notable fact that proves this is during the Quarter Quell when she puts her life on the line by ensuring that Katniss stays alive long enough for the rebels to break her out of the arena and make her the face for the uprising that had been a long time coming. Granted, Johanna's reasons weren't all pure but after losing everyone she loved because of the Capitol, she was willing to help Katniss.

Johanna is very smart, crafty and clever. She was able to fool twenty-three other Tributes and all of Panem in to believing that was was weak and that she wasn't worth their attention during her Game. Of course they were foolish to think that and she was willing to viciously kill the others in order to survive and win. Outside of her natural intellect, Johanna's only had as much schooling as was offered by her district - which wasn't much considering the Capitol wanted to make sure that they were only educated in basic reading, writing, math and a whole lot of propaganda surrounding Panem, the Capitol and the past rebellion. Given the opportunity to learn new things, she's very quick to pick things up - like the survial skills she learned during her Games.

Because of her past with the Games, the Capitol and dealing with all of President Snow’s demands after the Games, Johanna (like almost all Victors from the Hunger Games) has some severe trust issues and severe PTSD . She ends up struggling to cope with the physical and mental torture that she put through on Snow's orders. She's likely to strike out at others both verbally and physically if she feels like she's cornered or if people attempt to get close to her. This is a lesson she learned after she won her game, not to let people get close or they can be used against her. struggles with coping with the mental and physical torture she’s endured, and will strike out like a wounded animal at those who try to get too close. This is a terrible lesson she’s internalized while dealing with the Capitol – don’t let people get close, it’s safer for them, and easier for her.

Johanna stated that she has no one left that she loves anymore. It's revealed by Haymitch that Snow had killed them because she refused to cooperate with his plans to prostitute her. But despite saying that, Johanna still has relationships with others. Johanna and Finnick have an almost brother/sister relationship. They seem to rib each other and are allies in the Quarter Quell. It's obvious that Johanna cares more for him than she would admit but he is one of the few people she considers a friend. Her and Katniss didn't even like each other to begin with. Though Johanna seemed to have a bit of respect for how Katniss seemed to be standing up to Snow, even if Katniss didn't always realize it. Even when they were allies in the quarter Quell, there was still a dislike and distrust between the two. Johanna didn't seem to understand Katniss and how she could love and straight out told her that love is weird. Wireless and Beetee she looked at like annoying charges. Though she knew she needed them in order to help Katniss. She was told by Haymitch, who she knew and trusted enough to help out with trying to keep Katniss safe.

But no matter what people might say about her, Johanna is and will always be a Survivor - which she proves this over and over again. Her desire to live during her Games is strong enough that it seriously outweighs any moral dilemmas or physical disadvantages she faces, allowing her to win and become Victor. She's either dumb or resolute enough to believe that there is a possibility of resisting the Capitol, despite the odds stacked so highly against the rebellion, and to act upon that belief.

Powers/Abilities/Talents: She can swing an ax like it's no one's business. She's proficient in hand to hand combat, and she has survival training. Also she has a special talent when it comes to sarcasm and snark.

What 4 items would you like your character too have with them on the island during their stay? ax, a picture of her family

    Samples - Can be linked
First Person: This is a sample I wrote when I'd planned on apping her to amat.

[Johanna frowns as she stares at the screen of the device for a few moments. She's still not sure if this is real or some crazy morphling induced dream, but she's going to go with it for the time being. Better to look like she's not about to snap - even though she'd like to put her ax into someone's face.]

So this is nice, and by nice I mean weird and extremely fucked up. I read the so-called welcome guide-- >[She doesn't even try to hide the look that says what a joke that thing is.] and just let me get this straight. I'm expected to not only fuck someone, anybody every couple of weeks but I'm also suppose to get a job?

    [She smirks slightly.]

So anyone need anyone to kill somebody because I'm really good at that. Also, I'm a pretty good model, I've shown off some really amazing lumber inspired dresses in my time. Oh, and I should mention that I'm really good with people. [And if anyone actually believes that, they need help.] So as you can see I'm versatile and you'd be lucky to be the one giving me a job.

(I also played her at an insanejournal game and this was her intro.)
Third Person: Johanna at the test drive meme

Finally, out of the 4 words, pick one: Chimes.
